An Architecture for Agents with Obligations

چکیده

We explore the view that coordinated behavior is driven by the social constraints (e.g. obligations and interdictions) that agents in organizations are subject to. In this framework, agents adopt those goals that are requested by their obligations, knowing that not fulllling obligations induces a price to pay or a loss of utility. Based on this idea we build a coordination system where we represent the organization, the roles played by agents, the obligations imposed among roles, the goals and the plans that agents may adopt. To consistently update an agent's obligations and interdictions we present an incremental propagation method that also helps with detecting and deciding between connicting obligations. Once a goal adopted, a special brand of plans, called conversation plans, are available to the agents for eeectively carrying out coordinated action. Conversation plans explicitly represent interactions by message exchange and their actions are dynamically reordered using the theory of Markov Decision Processes to ensure the optimization of various criteria. The framework is applied to model supply chains of distributed enterprises.

A Context-aware Architecture for Mental Model Sharing through Semantic Movement in Intelligent Agents

Recent studies in multi-agent systems are paying increasingly more attention to the paradigm of designing intelligent agents with human inspired concepts. One of the main cognitive concepts driving the core of many recent approaches in multi agent systems is shared mental models. In this paper, we propose an architecture for sharing mental models based on a new concept called semantic movement....

An Architecture For Contract-based Communicating Agents

We extend AgentSpeak (L), a belief-desires-intentions architecture, to reason about and plan with contracts between communicating agents. Our architecture is hybrid in the sense that it incorporates both immediate reaction rules and a more complex planning component. We represent contracts as first-class entities to allow the relationships between agents to be specified and developed separately...

Contract Driven Agents

We propose, as part of an agent architecture, a system where contracts are represented as first-class entities to allow the relationships between agents to be specified and developed separately from their built-in capabilities. The contracts allow the agent’s problem-solving ability to be augmented by the potential of outsourcing tasks and obligations to other agents. The contracts also allow t...

NoA - A Normative Agent Architecture

NoA is an agent architecture that supports the development of agents motivated by norms: obligations, permissions and prohibitions. Obligations motivate a normative agent to act: a motive to achieve a state of affairs or to perform some action. Prohibitions restrict an agent's behaviour, whereas permissions allow an agent to pursue certain activities. To test the architecture, NoA agents arc ap...

Obligations in a BDI Agent Architecture

This paper presents a conceptual model that adds mental states, capable of dealing with social elements, to BDI architectures. It has long been recognized that social elements enhance multi-agent performance. Ideas for extending BDI architectures to incorporate norms, values and obligations are presented. Norms and values endow multi-agent systems with social attributes thereby facilitating the...
